Strength in Stories: Narrative Therapy and Therapeutic Writing for Survivors of Sexual Violence

It's my fault. I deserved it. No one will ever love me now.

The voice inside your head has you convinced that you are forever damaged, unlovable, or incapable of having a healthy relationship.

You find yourself often overwhelmed by self doubt, low confidence, or resentment.

After all, considering what you've been through and all the things that have been said about you (or the things people would say if they knew your story), maybe it's best if you just accept that your current life--full of fear and worry--is as good as it gets for you.

Sound familiar?

Strength In Stories (SIS) is a 8 week virtual therapy group created to help members identify and re-author the stories that define them.

SIS uses principle a narrative therapy, a form of counseling that that helps individuals see their problems and behaviors differently in order to create healthier stories and change their relationship with unhealthy behavior.

SIS also incorporates therapeutic writing exercises to help members reclaim their voice through the power of written word.

Desire Mind: Mindfulness for Women with Low Sexual Desire

Approximately 40% of American women report having problems with sexual functioning, especially sexual desire.

Women of all ages, education levels, or relationship statuses can experience a temporary or prolonged decrease in their desire for sex. This change can lead to a range of emotions including guilt, shame, confusion, frustration, or loneliness.

Mindfulness-the practice of paying attention to one’s moment to moment experience without judgment–has been found to help women become more aware and accepting of their body’s sexual responses and needs.Mindfulness can also decrease stress levels and symptoms of depression, which may also have a positive impact on sexual experiences.

Desire Mind is an 8 week group where participants learn and practice how to be more present, connect to their body’s sensations, and increase their experience of sexual desire.

Rainbow Sanctuary: A support group for queer and trans people of faith

What do you do when the belief systems you once held dear (and maybe still do) seem to conflict with who you are or who you love?

Where do you go when your community is no longer able or willing to know you, support you, or comfort you?

How do you reconcile the loving God or Higher Power you believe in with the condemnation others have determined you’re destined for?

The Rainbow Sanctuary aims to be a safe space to discuss these questions and more for queer and trans folks who also identify as a person of faith.

Meet the Facilitator

Hi! I'm Ceara Corry, also known as Cee, The Sex Lady. I am a North Carolinian by birth, a social worker by trade, and a Black woman by grace!

I’m a sexual trauma survivor and grew up in a “complicated” family dynamic. Long before I had the professional language to describe my experiences, I felt  the impact of  them in my mind, body, spirit, and relationships which prompted me to consume as much media as I could that contained stories similar to mine; unknowingly, the foundation for being laid for what would become my career and life’s work as I slowly became “the person I needed.”
